Jenny and Stephen had a beautiful Ayrshire Wedding. Their ceremony was held at Ballantrae Parish Church and their reception was at the Savoy Park Hotel in Ayr. My day started at 09:30 at Jenny’s mum and dad’s house in Stranraer, where the bridal preparations were just beginning, the bride was in fine spirits and was enjoying the morning preparations without a hint of nerves. It was a gorgeous sunny morning and I spent several hours capturing some of the morning activities before driving to Ballantrae which is located around 18 miles north of Stranraer.
I met the groom and groomsmen at Ballantrae Church around forty minutes before the wedding ceremony which gave us plenty of time to get some great photographs and have a bit of fun with the lads prior to the brides arrival.
Jenny arrived right on time and was eager to get into the church, to see Stephen and to get out of the sweltering heat. The service was lovely and the Minister incorporated some of the pictures that had been drawn by Jenny’s class (she is a schoolteacher) into his sermon after the vows and rings had been exchanged.
After the ceremony we had some time to capture some lovely portraits of the bride and groom in Ballantrae before we headed off along the coast road to Ayr. Unfortunately we didn’t get very far as just before Girvan we were advised that the road was closed and that we were being diverted back to Ballantrae – a quick reprogram of the GPS and around 25 miles of single track back road and we managed to get to Girvan and were back on track. But then it started raining…
It had stopped raining by the time we got to Ayr and the sun was back in the Sky. On arrival at the Savoy Park Hotel we got the formal group photographs completed and then took some candid photos before the bride and grooms portraits. The Savoy Park Hotel has been run by the Henderson family for the last forty years and was designed and built in 1886. It is a stunning Ayrshire hotel and makes the perfect backdrop for a traditional Ayrshire wedding. After some lovely portraits it was time to head in for the speeches and the wedding breakfast.
After the meal the guests enjoyed the luxury of strolling around the extensive garden or found a sunny spot to sit and drink some champagne, a great opportunity for some more candid photos. The before we knew it, it was time for the cutting of the cake and the first dance.
All in all it was a perfect day and a lovely Ayrshire wedding. Congratulations to Jenny and Stephen and I hope that you enjoy some of the highlights of their day.
