I first met Megan when she booked a studio portrait session for her son when he was just a baby. Megan then contacted me after her engagement and asked if would do her wedding photography at the Creebridge Hotel in Newton Stewart.
Their ceremony was held in the hotel’s main function room and their wedding breakfast and reception was held in a fabulous marquee on the hotel lawns. The Creebridge Hotel was built in 1760 and was originally a country house belonging to the Earl of Galloway. It was eventually converted into a country house hotel with 18 bedrooms. The hotel is set within three acres of gardens and woodland and is located on the edge of Newton Stewart in Wigtownshire.
The weather on the day can only be described as changeable, a few showers, occasional sunshine and a moody sky. But nothing that we were not prepared for.
The wedding day started early with bridal preparations at Ambers Hair Parlour in Minnigaff where all of the girls were having their hair done by Amber and makeup by Lauren’s Mini Boutique. The girls were very relaxed and we had a great time taking photographs and telling stories until I had to go and meet up with John and his Groomsmen and start preparing for the ceremony. I called in at Megan’s Mum and Dads house on the way to the Creebridge so that I could photograph some of the details including Megan’s blinged Converse shoes and her jewellery.
John and his best man met me around thirty minutes before the ceremony which gave us time to get some photographs of the men and have a chat before taking position for the ceremony. Megan arrived right on time in the wedding car (John’s beloved Vauxhall) decorated with ribbons and bows.
After a lovely ceremony, I took Megan and John for a short drive to get some romantic portraits of the two of them as the overcast sky was just begging for some dramatic wedding portraits. After thirty minutes or so, we rejoined their family and friends back at the Creebridge and took some photographs in the gardens and around the hotel and the celebrations continued long into the night.
I asked John and Megan a few questions about their experience of their wedding day:
How did you both meet?
John and I met when we were children. We started dating in April 2015 and got engaged on Christmas Day 2015. We didn’t want a long engagement so we decided to set a date as soon as we got engaged.
We wanted somewhere local so it would be easier for our guests to get to and didn’t have the hassle of arranging transport for our guests. The Creebridge Hotel was the ideal place as we could have the full day there without having to move about.
We went for the traditional kilts for the men and basic bridesmaids dresses. As we both have very large number in our families the men decided they would all wear the same tartan which made the photos look great.
I have an auntie who is very good at decorating weddings and offered to do it all as a wedding present so I just told her what our colour scheme was and then let her take over, which took a lot of stress away from John and I.
I chose Baillie Photography because the wedding photography packages were very good and there were different options for any budget. Dan spent a lot of time getting to know what we wanted and has great patience when it comes to photographing children, since we have 2 this was great. Dan wasn’t phased about keeping clean if it meant getting the perfect photo, at one point even lying down in the muddiest field!
We enjoyed the whole day from start to finish. Although It went past in a blink.
Don’t get stressed. It will work out absolutely fine no matter how much you worry about things. The outcome will be the same whether you stress or not!
