Jacqueline and Jason had their wedding at Kirkcowan Church and GG’s Yard in Gatehouse of Fleet, they had planned a really fun and laid back wedding with a church ceremony and a fabulous reception. I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding, it was such a buzz to be part of their big day!

Getting ready

I began the morning at GG’s Yard in one of the Sea View snugs at Laggan, where the girls were getting ready, the weather was terrible, the wind was howling and it was pouring with rain. But the girls were in fine spirits and there was plenty of fun as they sipped champagne and relaxed as there hair and makeup was applied. Jacqueline wore a beautiful white wedding dress and Jason wore a traditional kilt and plaid and they looked so perfect.

The wedding

The wedding took place at Kirkcowan Church, and was a traditional religious ceremony with a twist. They had their wedding rings delivered by a barn owl, which was so unique. After the ceremony they were showered with confetti, and we took some photographs at the church before heading off to the reception. which was being held at GG’s Yard.

The party

The wedding reception took place in the converted farm stedding which is over 250 years old with panoramic coastal views, they’d decorated the venue with navy blue and white nautical theme. It was stunning.

Despite the stormy start to the day, the afternoon was a beautifully sunny day, which was perfect. While the guests enjoyed canapes and champagne, we wandered around the venue doing fun and creative portraits. My favourite photo from our portrait session is during an early evening session on Mossyard Beach.

During the reception they had a caricature artist creating images of the bridal party and their wedding guests which such a unique idea. The had speeches before their wedding breakfast which brought smiles from all of their friends and family. For the meal they had a three course meal, and it was absolutely delicious, cooked and served to perfection.

After dinner they cut the wedding cake, then the party got started and the couple had their first dance to All Of Me by John Legend. They also had some cèilidh music, which was a huge hit.

The couple wanted their big day to be somewhere that was different.  GG’s Yard was the perfect choice a new venue with a stunning location which had fantastic views and photo opportunities. After we got engaged they had a walk round the grounds with the owners and booked GG’s Yard that day, it was a brand new wedding venue and they were among the first couples to book GG’s.

Jacqueline and Jason said that going down to the beach for some of their wedding photographs enabled them to have a bit of time to themselves to have fun and make memories to look back on in years to come.  They loved sitting at the table during their wedding breakfast and watching their guests enjoying the day and felt blessed that they were all there to celebrate such an important day. Jacqueline said that it was the best day ever! and she wishes that they could do it all again, it was so much fun!

The couple

Jacqueline and Jason met through mutual friends and were together for four years before they got engaged. The couple have a daughter, Ayva (5) and Jason has two older children, Justin (16) and Kirsten (10). The proposal happened out of the blue one morning when they were getting ready to go on holiday. Jason sent the children in to the room with a ring and sat behind them smiling whilst they asked Jacqueline to be their step-mum. They then had a day at Laggan Outdoor which would later become our wedding venue. They both say that if you’re planning a wedding then take time when planning to think about what you really want for your day and what will make you happy. Try not to worry about pleasing everyone else as it’s your day and you will only do it once!
