I had not been to a wedding at Ardwell Church near Stranraer before. What have I been missing, it’s a beautiful, intimate church to have a marriage ceremony with gorgeous light for photography and a fabulous outlook over the countryside. The bride and groom, Kirsty and Ian, were local to the church and after the ceremony were having the reception and formal photographs back at their farm house.
It was a lovely day, the sun was shining and every last detail had been meticulously planned and implemented. I arrived several hours before the ceremony to take some preperation photographs of the bride and bridesmaids. It is always a privilege to share this part of the day and it is vital in telling the story of the day. Preparatory photographs taken I then headed off to the church to meet up with the groom and the best man. Unusually the groom was pretty relaxed and wasn’t letting any last minute nerves show. We had a laugh taking photos of the groom and groomsmen outside the church before getting ready for the arrival of the bride.
The bride was to arrive in a horse drawn carriage. She didn’t know anything about this and thought that she was going to the church in a family car.
After the ceremony there was time for a group shot outside the church before the guests headed to the farm for a champagne reception. This gave me a chance to take some photographs of the bride and groom alone together. Next up were the formal shots of the guests and family. Before we were asked to take our places in the marquee for the wedding breakfast and speeches. The speeches were fabulous and bought tears of joy and laughter to everyone.
All in all it was a beautiful day and a pleasure to be their wedding photographer. Congratulations once again to Kirsty and Ian, I wish you health, happiness and joy for the future.
